Make parking less costly for family visits
WITH more couples starting their own homes and living away from their parents and siblings, it can get costly to visit their relatives, especially when they drive.
A trip to one's parents' home can last two to three hours - and longer if couples are also entrusting their children to the care of their parents. This will set the couple back by about $2 to $3 per visit on parking.
The Government has been encouraging bonding between families and generations. This is also why the HDB gave out grants for couples residing within the same town or 2km proximity from their parents.
The HDB can do more by giving subsidised season parking for people who are purchasing their second season parking within the same town; or retaining parking rates, but allowing per-entry-basis parking, say $1 to $2 for unlimited parking before 10.30pm daily.

- If you have a problem with paying $2-$3 to visit your Ma and your Pa, how did you find the money to buy a car in the first place ?
- Do you need the Gahmen to remind you to bond with your family ?
- What would you do if parking charges were raised ? Mail postcards to Mummy instead ? Oh, wait ... postal rates just went up.
Nowadays I tend to stop reading whenever I see the phrase, "Since the Government is encouraging ..."
