Big Play

I've been seeing many such ads in MRT stations recently, for some Priceline/Airport Express Taiwan travel promotion.

The pronunciation of "Taiwan" in the Minan dialect sounds like 大玩 in Cantonese, which means having a lot of fun and literally translates into "big play".

Don't really understand the 6th tone for the 大 though.

Wah lau... 6 tones for Cantonese? I'm dying from stress from eaching my girl hanyu pinyin now that she's P1. If there were 6 tones for Mandarin, I might as well go kill myself.

Cantonese has NINE tones ah, scared or not ?

I had been coaching my wife on her Mandarin skills, and even this former CL1 student has been stumped occasionally, esp. the usage of "z" vs "zh".
